Start them off Early

Tonight Sam enjoyed refried beans from El Farol.  In this family we have to start them eating Mexican food as soon as possible.  Sam couldn't get enough.

Just a Little Bit More Stories

Yesterday was a long day.  Abby woke up on the wrong side of the bed and then would not take a nap.  So she was not in the best mood.  When it was time for bed I usually read her three stories, but I was kinda done so I read her one and said okay go hop in bed and she gives me this innocent look as she is rocking back and forth on the ottoman for the rocking chair and says, "I think I need just a little bit more stories, so....!" I just started laughing I wish I could have had it on video.  I had hug her and ready her another story it was too cute!

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Tonight at bed time Abby wanted Stuart to sing, "Take me out to the ball game." (One of her favorite songs right now.) After he sang it she said, "I want to go to a ball game ." Stuart's response was, "Well maybe this summer when it is warm we can go to a ball game." Then Abby said, "and I'll buy peanuts and cracker jacks."

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!  Abby didn't quite understand what Valentine's Day was all about, but she was excited to get a present from us.  We gave her a cute little stuffed pink hippo.  She opened it and said, "a unicorn!"  I guess the bow on it's head looks like a unicorn?  It can be what ever she wants it to be.  Stu and I enjoyed a nice quiet dinner tonight thanks to my parents having a Valentine's Party for the grandkids.  We had to take Sam, but he is easy.  We went to El Chihuahua then for dessert we went to Nelsen's Frozen Custard.  I was a nice date.  Then Stu put Abby to bed, best present EVER! After we put the kids to bed we enjoyed three of our favorite shows, New Girl, Raising Hope and Wipe Out.  It was a nice Valentine's Day!

According to Abby my name is Mommy Jane Curtis and her name is Abby Jane Curtis.  I just thought that was cute!

Baby Center E-mail

I love the email's from the baby center.  Sometimes I think they can read my mind and know what emails to send me. This is the email I received today...

The Power of "No"
When would a child say "no" to ice cream? When she's a 2-year-old in defiant mode who's enamored with the word "no." Hearing the word a lot from your preschooler doesn't mean she has a negative personality. Rather, she's finding out that she has her own personality, and "no" is a good way to let Mom or Dad know she disagrees. Some twos get so entrenched in the word that it's their favorite response, no matter what the question.

Your 2-year-old now

Of all the words your child is picking up this year, it may seem like he has one grand favorite: "NO." What's the attraction? Preschoolers say "no" a lot because they're discovering their own free will. "No" is a handy way to voice their opinion. (Sometimes they even say "no" when they really mean "yes.") Sometimes a not-very-verbal child will resort to "no" just because he's mad or flustered and struggling to get his point across. Your preschooler may also learn that if he says it loudly and forcefully enough, Mom and Dad will really pay attention ... they might even go along with it!

Giving your child choices is one way to reduce the number of no's you hear from him. Also, encourage him to answer in a quiet voice, and coach him in some alternatives: "What's the opposite of 'no'? 'Yes!'" "You can say 'no,' or you can say 'yes,' or guess what's in the middle? You can say 'maybe!'"

Mean Mommy

Sometimes I just feel like I am a mean mommy. That I I do all day long is say no! no! no! or if you do that you will get hurt, oh then she does it any way and falls or gets hurt and I don't feel bad because I told her two seconds before not to.  I am sick of reading stories to myself before Abby's bed time because she is too busy ignoring me or doing something she shouldn't be doing! The last two weeks she has just had this attitude.  I can't stand it.  When we ask her to so something she just yells in this loud high voice NO! I don't know what to do.  It doesn't matter what I say the answer is no. I bet if I asked her if she would eat a piece of candy she would yell NO! at first then it would process and she would say yes. Last week I got so frustrated with her and told her she couldn't go to the birthday party that night if she didn't take a nap and she looked and me and side fine, I don't want to go!  I finally took all her favorite stuffed animals away and that did the trick.  Any suggestions? Just had to vent! As you can tell it was a long day. Poor Stu has to listen to me cry and wine all the time (and deal with little miss attitude too.) Anyone else feel like they are a mean mommy or is it just ME!

I Want Mommy!

I absolutely love that Abby wants me to be her buddy and that I am the only one that can do anything - I cherish every moment (well most), Like tonight I let her stay up until 10pm because she was being so dang cute and she asked me to snuggle bug on the couch with her.  We watched pretty much an entire movie, snuggling under the lamby blanket on the couch.  I just love that and I want to just love her and squeeze her but... sometimes I would LOVE a break!  The last two weekends when Stu has not been as busy I have tried to have him put her to bed, but NOPE she wants mommy to.  Even last night she went upstairs to say good night to daddy and she said I want daddy to read stories.  Yahoo! I was thrilled (even though Stu had a test to study for) I really wanted a break.  But, after Stu and Abby got downstairs she wanted mommy to read stories.  I should just enjoy it while it last because who knows when it will all change!  Stu did put Sam to bed tonight it was a nice break too!  Thanks babe!

Quotes By Abby...

-Today Abby says to me, "Mommy I want a pair of nuts."  I had to giggle a little and my mind starts wondering what does she mean by that.  Then she ran over to the jar of Pistachios and said again, "I want a pair of nuts."  I think she meant to say I want a couple of nuts.

-This morning Abby had a nasty poop and her morning diaper was so full that it could not hold anymore so pee was running down her legs so Stu came and tossed her in the shower with me.  I washed her off and after we got out I said, "Does to feel good to get all that yucky poop off?" and she said, "Yes, you washed it all off, you are a nice lady."

Abby the Camel

Tonight Abby and I were singing the song Sally the Camel and I was joking with her and said Abby the Camel has three humps and she stopped turned around, bent over and started shaking her bum and said, "Not I don't have any humps, See! Just a back."  I just love the things she says, I don't want to forget any of them.

Ahhh!

For about two or three weeks Sam slept through the night then he stopped and most night he would wake up around 2am.  Well the last three night he has taken his usual night time nap from 6:30 or 7pm until 10 or 11pm then slept all through the night until 10:30 or 11am the next day.  Ahhhh!  I hope this continues! (He has had to cry himself to sleep the last two night, guess it was time to sleep train him.  He has never done that before, but nothing else worked.  I hate having to do that, he didn't cry for too long.  I remember Abby crying for hours I swear.)

Pretend...

Since Abby got her big girl bed I have been sitting on her bed at her feet and massage her legs and feet at night when I am singing her songs before she goes to sleep.  Well, tonight I was singing her songs and I was not massaging her and she says to me, "Mommy pretend that you are washing my legs and feet." In other words she wanted me to massage her legs and feet.  I thought that was pretty cute. It is so funny how two year olds think!

FEED ME!!!

Today I was holding Sam while I ate lunch and every bite I took he screamed at me in this high pitched squeal.  The more I ate the more mad he got so I stopped eating and put him in the high chair.  I have only fed him baby food twice and the only baby food I had was some from Abby.  I pulled that out and started feeding him.  I could not shovel it in fast enough.  He kept trying to eat his bib...he was starving!  I guess I am going to have to stop being lazy and feed him more solids.  So far he has enjoyed squash and green beans.

Big Girl Bed

Abby was so excited to get her big girl bed.  When Macy's delivered the mattress I asked them to just leave it in the hall and she was not okay with that.  She made them take it to her room. I walked the delivers guys back upstairs and when I came down she was snuggled on the mattress with her blanket and binky.  So far she has had no problems transitioning from her crib to the bed.  She took a nap in it yesterday and slept fine in it last night.  Hopefully tonight will go great too.  I had to take this picture when she was upstairs because she doesn't like the duvet on it.  I don't know why, but she like to lay on top of both sheet and have the duvet fold on the bottom.  Then she just sleeps with her blanket over her just like she did in her crib.  I can't make it at all, when I tried to put the decorative pillows on she came in and took them all off.  She is very opinionated if you can't tell.  I love her bedding.  It is all Pottery Barn bedding I found at DownEast.  Gotta love that store. I am so glad she loves her bed.  When Stu got home last night she was so excited to take him to see her big girl bed.  She had to show Grandma and Grandpa too.  She even showed me a couple more times today.  I found her through out the day today just laying on her bed under her blanket with her binks.

Notice the green thing in the corner.  It is the bottom of the mobile the was on her crib.  We took off the mobile park when she was like 6 months old, but she loved the music box part.  She listens to it every night, so I had to find a place to put it so she could turn it on and off.  Too bad Sam will not get to enjoy the mobile.  It was pretty cute.

One day we will get her a headboard, but as for now this works just great.
